Since the tragedy at Sandy Hook, there have been over 1200 gun deaths in the United States. These are a few of them.

Guns are not the answer to our problems. Allowing students, teachers, and guests to carry firearms on campus will not deter shooters or make violence any less likely at the University of Arkansas. It will, however, increase the risk of violence and lethal accidents, destroy academic freedom, and foster a sense of distrust among students which detracts from a healthy learning environment. Not only does it reflect poorly on our school and our state, but it has the potential to cause tuition increases as the UA’s insurance rises.

All of that being said, there is something each of us can do to make sure the campus of our state’s flagship university stays safe and gun free. Like Razorbacks Against Concealed Carry on Facebook and/or follow on  Twitter to stay updated in the ongoing battle against the push to put guns in students’ hands. Most importantly, you can contact your ASG representatives and tell them to vote AGAINST concealed carry on campus. Then, attend the vote and make sure they get the message.

Together, we can win this. Together, we can keep our school safe. It’s time to stand up and make our voices heard, because that’s what Razorbacks do.
